Service Charges
Service charges are paid by all those living in properties that are served by communal facilities or services. They cover buildings insurance and such services as maintenance of communal areas, upkeep of communal gardens and an emergency alarm system, if one is fitted. These charges are not part of the rent although they may be paid with the rent and the amount payable will be shown in your annual rent notification.
What is the difference between a rent and a service charge?
The rent enables the association to cover the cost of managing and maintaining your home. The service charge covers the cost of providing and maintaining services such as communal gardening or cleaning.
You will be advised of any services charges when your tenancy starts.
