Key milestones reached for landlord and tenants

28 July 2009

As Meres and Mosses Housing Association reaches its second anniversary the social landlord has marked an astonishing 500 kitchen and bathroom upgrades for tenants of its properties.

Meres and Mosses Housing Association took over more than 2,300 homes from the former North Shropshire District Council on July 1, 2007, and began its £30million property enhancement project on that very day, with the first of 473 new, high-security front doors being fitted.

The success of this programme of major improvements celebrated its latest milestone with a presentation to the recipient of the 500th kitchen and bathroom replacement. Mrs Denise Shuker, of The Northlands, Woore, was presented with a food processor by Dave Challinor, Head of Asset Management at MMHA.

Since 2007 new kitchen installations have spanned the entire area covered by MMHA, from Tetchill in the West, to Harmer Hill in the South, to Whitchurch in the North and now to Woore in the far Northeast of the area. A further 500 properties have benefited from double glazed window installations, 1500 properties have be fitted with secure by design front and back doors and another 100 properties have had controllablecentral heating fitted.

MMHA, part of Shropshire Housing Group, has focused on involving tenants in the wide-ranging improvement process, ensuring their needs and preferences were part of the programme.

Dave Challinor said “We’re very pleased with the huge range of improvements we have been able to make since Meres and Mosses Housing Association took over the North Shropshire Housing stock – but more importantly we want the residents to be pleased!

“We put a great deal of focus on liaising with our tenants and ensuring their voices are heard regarding all aspects of our work. Being able to give them the opportunity to choose their kitchen design and talk to the people who will be installing it is a huge step on from how these things were done in years gone by and that is how it should be. It’s the result of good and close working relationships with partners like CLC Ltd.

The next round of tenants preparing to receive home improvements will be given the opportunity to browse the range of kitchen designs available to them and meet some of the installation teams at an open day organised by CLC Ltd,  which is itself marking the installation of 250 new kitchens for the not-for-profit landlord’s tenants since September last year.

There will be prizes for tenants and a special draw at the event organised by CLC Ltd, MMHA’s partner, on Monday 20th July between 3-8pm at the Beacon Community Centre, Market Drayton,
