Residents up for the challenge
28 July 2009
Tenants of two of Shropshire’s leading housing associations were challenged to try their hands at a variety of activities, courtesy of their landlords. South Shropshire Housing Association and Meres & Mosses Housing Association held a joint event at Sundorne Sports Village, in Shrewsbury, giving their residents the chance to try out a range of activities for all ages. The Residents’ Challenge day offered competitions on Nintendo Wii gaming consoles, rock climbing, badge and jewellery making, face painting, bouncy castles for the children and even the opportunity to hit the mixing decks and be a DJ. Around 250 tenants took up the opportunity of a free fun day out, and they also had the chance to chat with housing association team members about a variety of issues, including property repairs and anti-social behaviour. Community liaison officer at SSHA, Mike Cotton, said: “The whole day was really successful, with people trying out everything on offer. We’re passionate about the power of community to support people. Sheila Standley, Resident Involvement Officer at MMHA said: “An event like this was ideal to bring lots of tenants and residents together, whether they were simply looking for fun or for practical advice and information. There were a lot of smiles on display all day!” Meres and Mosses Housing Association and South Shropshire Housing Association are both part of Shropshire Housing Group, a parent company that also encompasses maintenance firm Total Response Ltd, which carries out upgrades and maintenance on the group’s properties as well as for private clients.
