Louder Voice For Residents Groups

02 September 2008

Residents Groups in sheltered and supported housing across North Shropshire are being given a formal voice in how their schemes are managed.

Each group within nine schemes run by Meres and Mosses Housing Association (MMHA) is adopting a formal constitution to enable them to become involved in many of the management decisions relating to their homes.

They are also being given a £150 grant to enable them to organise joint meetings with other groups or to visit other organisations to discuss issues of common concern.

MMHA resident involvement officer Sheila Standley explained: “MMHA took over the management of the homes in July last year as part of the housing stock transfer from North Shropshire District Council.

“This is the first time the 225 residents of the schemes have had a formal voice in the decision making process. For instance, we know that there are a number of communal areas within the schemes which are due to be updated, and we are anxious to have our resident’s input into the way they would like these communal rooms to look .

“We want to build on the work we have already undertaken to involve residents in helping to decide the priorities of refurbishment works, the type of services we provide and the way they are delivered.”
