Sheila opens way to greater participation
10 February 2008
A new Tenant Participation Officer, Sheila Love, has been appointed to ensure tenants at a new Housing Association serving north Shropshire have the same opportunities as those in South Shropshire.
Sheila has been appointed to Meres and Mosses Housing Association (MMHA) as the countdown begins for the launch of the new Association on 30th July.
Based at MMHA’s Office in Wem, Sheila is tasked with ensuring that tenants from the area will be able to participate in the decision-making processes which impact on the management of their homes.
Both MMHA (which will be formed with the transfer of housing from North Shropshire District Council) and South Shropshire Housing Association (SSHA) are expected to become subsidiaries of a newly formed Shropshire Housing Group later this summer.
Sheila explained: “I am working closely with Mike Cotton, who is Community Liaison Officer for our partners South Shropshire Housing Association to ensure that tenants of Meres and Moses will have the same opportunities as they already enjoy.
“I have established a Quality and Design Forum which is enabling tenants in the north of the County to help choose designs and contractors for a major refurbishment programme of kitchens, bathrooms and central heating, which will begin once the transfer process is complete.
“I am also looking at establishing survey groups amongst tenants so that they can help gather feedback on different aspects of MMHA services and I am looking at establishing community activities such as reading groups.”
Gordon Hodgkiss, who is Chair of the MMHA says that “The setting up of MMHA has been being planned for two years and we looking forward to working closely with Sheila and other housing staff to give tenants a completely new sense of involvement and influence with the service.”
